SMPC Expansion of the FoyerIt may look to you like nothing’s happening. Not true! We have been extremely busy. Steve Feddersen, Pastor Cynthia, Jim Omundson (contractor), Jeff Los (architect) and I talk and e-mail several times a week. We have been in constant contact with the city, the county, fire marshal, building inspectors, subcontractors and more, trying to get our permits
secured so that we can demolish our foyer and start the remodel.
These last few months have been a trying time. Working closely with our architect and contractor, it seems that for every step forward, we take another step back as new issues arise. None of them are really huge, but each of them has an impact on the budget.
Thanks to the expertise of Jeff Los and Jim Omundson, we have been slowly resolving the issues. The City is prepared to give us the go ahead to begin demolishing the foyer and areas of the Narthex/Library and CE building. However, we are holding off until we have a solid estimated total cost of the project. We need to be confident that we are moving where God is leading. We believe that we are very close to resolving the final steps that need to be completed.
The Presbytery of the Cascades (Western Oregon) continues to work closely with us to secure our construction loan from the Synod (the larger Northwest Region), and the Trustees of the Presbytery recently went so far as to hold a special conference call to try to help us along.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the building fund. If you have not taken the opportunity to become a supporter of the building fund we encourage you to contact Pastor Cynthia, Steve Feddersen or Tom Shaw to learn about the fund and how you to can be a part of future of our church. Please keep the building committee, the Session, and church staff in you prayers, especially that we are discerning correctly where God is leading us.
