HABITS OF DISCIPLESHIP
In order to experience and participate in the presence of Christ more vividly, it is important to nurture several habits as an individual disciple and as a group of disciples. The following habits are something that that we would like to continue to emphasize and encourage in the coming years at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church. Practicing these habits will get more people to contribute to what God is doing and it will prepare us with a solid foundation to grow further in a relationship with the God who is full of love for this world. As a quick summary, we want to:
Encourage Every Church Member to:
+ Read at least one verse of scripture and pray every single day.
+ Participate in some sort of small group with Christ-centered relationships.
+ At least once a month, invite someone who you don’t know very well to share a meal with you.
+ Volunteer in an area where you have a God-given passion to make a difference.
+ Worship regularly.
Encourage Every Group in our Church to:
+ Read at least one verse from scripture at every gathering.
+ Allow time for people to receive personal prayer in each meeting.
+ Provide a brief opportunity for people to share what’s going on in their lives at every meeting.
+ Plan at least two activities every year to connect with people outside of our congregation.
+ Build-up new leaders and bless people as they are sent out to serve God.
“Remember, wherever you go, God is sending you. Wherever you are, our Lord has a purpose in your being there. Christ who indwells you has something he wants to do through you. Believe it and go in God’s grace and power.” – Richard Halverson, former Chaplain of the U.S. Senate.
