WORSHIP / MUSIC
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. - Psalm 100:1-2, 5
At Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church we want to provide an environment in our worship service where people of all ages and backgrounds might better experience the love of God in Jesus Christ through sound, sight, and genuine Christian hospitality. We worship every Sunday at 10:00 am.
Do you what to be involved? We have several opportunities for you to participate in worship:
Our chancel choir is directed by Larry Wood. This choir is composed of both children and adults who enjoy singing. Their rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. There is plenty of room for anyone who would like to join them.
Every Sunday, we have a group of singers and musicians who help lead us in singing the congregational music. Their regular practices are Thursdays from 4:40 to 5:40 pm and Sunday mornings from 8:45 to 9:00 am. New vocal or instrumental talent is always welcome.
The Smith Memorial adult handbell choir is Jubilant Bells, directed by Janice Fisher. We have four full octaves of bells (plus most of a fifth octave), three octaves of handchimes, special padded tables and other equipment. The ringers practice every Wednesday evening (6:00 to 7:25) from September through June in preparation for participation in worship. We usually play on the second Sunday of the month. We welcome new ringers.
Greeters and Ushers
Greeters and Ushers are ministers of hospitality. They are usually the first official representatives of the congregation that people meet upon arrival at church. They should help all people feel welcomed
as Christ welcomes us. Volunteering to serve as an usher or greeter is open to everyone throughout the church including families with children. Greeters will be stationed at the front entry doors of the church to joyfully welcome people right when they walk in from the parking lot. Ushers will be stationed in the narthex to give a friendly smile as they pass out bulletins and assist people with any special needs.
